I lost my Palm Treo last week as a result of which I borrowed my wife's LG Shine for the interim. The difference in experience was quite overwhelming not just in terms of physical parameters but also in my interaction with the two phones. My Treo provided so much more real estate compared to the Shine whereas Shine was faster than Treo being a 3G phone. It made me think deeper about the challenges mobile web developers face when they have to develop mobile sites. ATT's website alone lists more than 80 different phones each with different capability and LCD screen sizes. Now you multiply that by 100s of carriers worldwide and you have a developer’s nightmare - "How do I develop a mobile site that not only works on all devices but also performs well?"
Developers today need a tool that will quickly validate content on the site and also test for device compatibility. The ability to write test cases and run them recursively across different devices is another must have feature. In order to save time during development it is important to have the capability of testing over the internet. However, having the ability to go over the carrier network is also critical to test the impact of carrier’s proxy servers.
Keynote is trying to address the above issues by launching a new product. Keep reading this blog to hear more about our impending solution. :)
